Leaman Bruton graduated from Covert High School in 1986. Bruton enlisted in the United States Navy in 1986. He attended basic training and deck seaman apprenticeship training in Great Lakes, IL, graduating in October 1986. He reported to the USS Denver, homeport in San Diego, California serving from 1986 to 1990. Bruton served as watch supervisor in San Diego, California and earned Tech Control, NEC in May 1993. He was also assigned as work center supervisor on the USS Coronado and in 1996 was promoted to Department Leading Petty Officer. He reenlisted in 1998 for four additional years.

In 2000 he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer and in 2001 was deployed to the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans to participate in Operation Endunng Freedom.

Leaman Bruton was commissioned to the rank of Ensign in a ceremony at Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka Naval Base in Yokosuka, Japan in September 2002. He was one of eight applicants selected from more than 400 candidates to the Navy's limited duty officer program.

The information systems technician operates and maintains the Navy's global sateffite telecommunications systems, mainframe computers, local and wide area networks, and microcomputer systems used throughout the fleet.

His awards over the years include the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Good Conduct Medal and vanous unit awards. Leaman has participated in a variety of Community Relief Projects in the countries of Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore and Hong Kong. Efforts included painting schools, orphanages and handing out humanitarian supplies. He also serves as a volunteer youth basketball coach and is a member of the Ikego Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization.

Leaman is married to the former Charlotte Morrow of San Diego, California and they have three children.
