Cheryl Fletcher Washington was president of her graduating class at Covert High School. She attended the University of Michigan and graduated with a BA degree in Psychology in 1979. Upon graduation, she took a position at the Chicago Association for Retarded Citizens (C.A.RC.), the largest Vocational Rehabilitation Facility in Chicago. Cheryl began as a Training Counselor and rose through the ranks. Fourteen years later, she became Director of the Lombard Vocational Training Center. During her career, she supervised from 10 to 30 professional staff and as many as 163 developmentally disabled adults ranging from severely and profound to mildly and moderately retarded. Her staff was always encouraged to be professional and to treat the trainees with the utmost dignity and respect.

Cheryl has seved as a mentor to many of her staff. One of her former staff members, Bud Kuplit, reports that "Cheryl is a highly humanistic, self motivated and organized person. She consistently provides leadership and structure to a work environment that can become chaotic. Her warm pleasant personality is magnetic and her optimism is contagious. She has a wonderful sense of humor."
Among her personal and professional achievements are: Membership National Honor Society, her portrait is displayed at the University of Michigan Campus, and C.A.R.C. Employee of the Year. Cheryl is a member of the Church of God. Recently, she became a member on the staff of the Matteson illinois Police Department, where her dedication and determination are admired.

Her administrative supervisor, Donna C. Ennis characterized Cheryl as a person who consistently received positive and outstanding evaluations and in fact was named Employee of the Year in 1986. Her strengths are in the areas of supervision, case management and the ability to foster good moral and work motivations. She is a leader and has obtained the respect and admiration of her peers.

She is the mother of four lovely children. Cheryl has used her wisdom to touch many people in her field.
