Jerry was born in 1928, and has lived his entire life in Covert, MIchigan, graduating from Covert High School in 1945. Following graduation, Jerry decided to remain in the family farming business, and become active in community activities. Jerry has devoted a major portion of his personal life to furthering and enhancing the lives of others through his active involvement in local government, community and church activities. His contributions extend not only to Covert township, but throughout Van Buren County and the State of Michigan.

Jerry was a member of the Covert Township Fire Department for fifty years, and has been a member of the Covert Township Board since 1955. He has served as Trustee (1955-58, Clerk (1958-60), Treasurer (1960-61), and Supervisor (1961 to present). He also is a Charter member of the Van Buren County Transportation Service; Charter President of Van Buren County Township Association; Charter member of Van Buren County District Library, Former President and member of Board of Directors of Michigan Townships Association; Former Chairman and member of Tn-County Private Jndustiy Council. He was appointed to the Governor's Small Cities Board in 1980.

In 1984, Jerry was honored, in Washington; D.C., by the National Association of Towns and Townships, where he was presented with The Dave Durenberger Grassroots Government Leadership AWard for his outstRnding record of public service and distinguished leadership as a local governmental official.

Jerry and his wife, Elda, have three grown chidren, and continue to operate their sixty acre diversified fruit farm and market at 36197 M-140 Highway, Covert, MI.
