Candy was born in South Haven, MI to George and Eddie Wright of Covert, MI. She grew up in Chicago, but returned to graduate from Covert High School in 1980.

She further her education attending Lake Michigan College, Kalamazoo Community College, and Western Michigan Jurisdictional Bible College where she graduated in 1988 as Valedictorian. Candy received her Associates Degree in Theology, and a Graduate of Theology Diploma in 2006 from the International Institute and Seminary in Plymouth, Florida. Her high grade point average was acknowledged by Dr. Harvey C. Pittman.

Candy joined the staff at Covert Public Schools in 1995 and retired in 2007.

Candy continued to pursue her divine calling being ordained as an Elder in 2005, licensed as an Evangelist in 2006, and in 2007 she married Pastor W.C. Askew.

In 2000, she opened "Candy's Soul Cuisine," a restaurant and catering service. In 2008 she opened "Candy's Poetic Corner" where she writes and sells personalized poems and slogans for all occasions. She was recognized for this achievement and was presented with the "Buck for Luck" by the South Haven Chamber of Commerce.

She has written and published at least 3 books, and some of her works have received national recognition.

Candy is the mother of 4 children: Latrice, Terri, Keierra, and Aaron, and has 5 grandchildren.

Candy's motto is "If God can't do it, it can't be done, but with God, all things are possible."
