MILITARY/EDUCATION

Valerie Felder,daughter of Paul and Miriam Biyant, graduated as Valedictorian of the Covert High School class of 1979. Valerie served in the United States Air force from 1983-1991,and was commissioned as a Captain. She received the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorioous service. Education achievements include Bachelor of Science Degree and Commission from University of Michigan; Master of Science Degree from Troy State University; Women's Honorary Society - ADARA - University of Michigan; Detachment 390- University of Michigan Air Force ROTC Scabbard and Blade Honor Society; graduate of Squadron Officer School and Communications Officers School with US Air Force. She has a Master of Science Degree in Human Resources, enhanced by extensive professional experiences within the Air Force.

Valerie has taught in academic, social, and religious settings, and was recently invited to teach undergraduate classes as an Adjunct Professor for one of the University of Maryland European campuses located at the Joint Command South Central NATO base in Larissa, Greece. Since 1991, Valerie has primarily been a homeschooling mother, currently schooling at four different levels. Her husband, Major Eddie Lee Felder Jr., was quoted as saying "We want to raise exceptional children in a less-than-ideal world." The couple have seven children, of which two are adopted.

Community service includes supported Meals-on -Wheels at Maxwell/Gunter AFB, established first international breast feeding support group at Keesler AFB, actively supports pro-life adoption program through Bethany Christian Services in Grand Rapids, Michigan, youth Toastmasters International Coordinator for public speaking programs involving 4 through th grades.

National recognition was given Valerie when chosen as coach for the 75 Annual Scripps- Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May 2002. Valerie is a professional clarinetist, with numerous program invitation. Valerie's experiences as a former Air Force officer, current education, and involvement in corporate and community affairs are examples of her leadership and dedication in motivating achievement in others now, and in the future.
